She is a neurologist and Director of the Stroke Center at St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals in New York, New York. copyright American Heart Association "There are a lot of prevention strategies in terms of reducing someone's risk of stroke that really work. So the whole partnership with someone's doctor, really talking honestly about what those risk factors are and then modifying them appropriately is really the key. Stroke is now the fifth leading cause of death in the United States. It used to be higher, and I think a lot of that has to do with education, people empowering themselves and doing a lot about their health. So I want people to realize that there are things that they can do to prevent stroke, that are very powerful. Really, this is the time to decide what your own risk factors are, modify them appropriately, and then your brain will be happier for it, certainly."
