Miguel Perez-Pinzon, Ph.D., FAHA, chair, International Stroke Conference 2020 Program Committee, is professor of neurology/neuroscience, director, Cerebral Vascular Disease Research Center, director, Peritz Scheinberg Cerebral Vascular Laboratory, Vice-chair for neurology basic science at the Miller School of Medicine, department of neurology at the University of Miami, Miami, FL. copyright American Heart Association "With the advent of thrombectomy, today, we can get neuro protective agents faster, and to the area of injury, in the brain, so we are really getting into very closed, and really exciting area of research, and of course, you know, the basic pre-clinical research is coming out with a number of things that are opening a new path of research, like the microbiota. It's an area of research that is expanding very fast, for the field of stroke, inflammation. It's a very complex area that is hard to target at the level of patients with a number of co-morbidities, so research is moving forward very fast in that range. So, the other thing that we have in the conference is the very strong emphasis on having basic scientists and clinicians talking to each other. We have made a major effort at it. The presentations that we have, the symposia that we have, we have at least one basic scientist presenting a clinical session, and at least one clinician present in the basic science presentation. That way we have that integration going on between the two, because we think it's essential for the proper translation of future neuro protectants."
